New York, NY — The Manhattan Borough President’s Office is now accepting applications to serve on Community Board 12-Manhattan. Both new applicants and current members seeking reappointment are encouraged to apply by 5:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026.


What Is Community Board 12-Manhattan?

CB12M is an independent city agency representing the neighborhoods of Washington Heights and Inwood in northern Manhattan. The board is committed to improving the delivery of city services and advocating for the welfare of the district and its residents.

As a community board member, you become a direct link between your neighbors and city government—helping to shape decisions that affect daily life in your neighborhood.

What Do Board Members Do?

Board members serve on committees that review and advise on critical local issues. CB12M operates 10 committees covering a wide range of topics:
Land Use — Zoning changes, new developments, and building projects
Licensing — Review of liquor license and sidewalk café applications
Traffic & Transportation — Street safety, bike lanes, and transit access
Housing & Human Services — Affordable housing and social services
Parks & Cultural Affairs — Green spaces, playgrounds, and community programming
Public Safety — Working with NYPD and emergency services
Health & Environment — Public health initiatives and environmental concerns
Business Development — Supporting local businesses and commercial corridors
Youth & Education — Schools and programs for young people
Concerns of the Aging — Services for seniors

Members attend monthly full board meetings, participate in committee work, and engage with city agencies on behalf of their community.
