Meeting Date: 1st Thursday at 7 pm
The Housing and Human Services Committee of Community Board 12 Manhattan is dedicated to addressing the housing and human service needs of the vibrant communities of Washington Heights and Inwood. The committee advocates for residents’ rights with several key city agencies, including the Department of Buildings, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the NYC Housing Authority, the Rent Guidelines Board, the Department of Homeless Services, the Human Resources Administration, and the Commission on Human Rights.
Washington Heights and Inwood face significant challenges related to housing quality and tenant protections. The district is home to a notable number of buildings managed by landlords who are frequently cited for housing violations, and regularly featured on the NYC Public Advocate’s Office Worst Landlords Watchlist. The committee strives to ensure safe, affordable housing and essential services for all community members. Through the voices of tenant association representatives, housing organizations and other community based organizations, residents are able to discuss with policymakers some of the biggest issues affecting the district.
The Housing and Human Services Committee plays a crucial role in safeguarding the well-being of the district’s residents, advocating for improvements, and ensuring that district voices are heard in citywide policy discussions.
