Land Use

Meeting Date: 1st Wednesday at 7 pm

The Land Use Committee plays a pivotal role shaping the urban landscape of Washington Heights and Inwood. This committee is responsible for reviewing and providing recommendations on zoning changes, land use applications, and development proposals within the district. It ensures that any new development or modification to existing structures aligns with the community’s needs and priorities, fostering sustainable growth and preserving the unique character of the neighborhoods.

The committee actively engages with residents, developers, and city agencies to balance development pressures with the preservation of historic sites, green spaces, and affordable housing. Through public hearings and meetings, the Land Use Committee facilitates community input and ensures that the voices of Washington Heights and Inwood residents are integral to the decision-making process.

The Department of City Planning, the New York City Economic Development Corporation and other key agencies make regular appearances at committee meetings collaborating with members to maintain a vibrant, equitable, and livable environment for all who live and work in Washington Heights and Inwood.
