In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Inwood residents came together to help a neighbor who lost $300 of her rent money at a local bagel shop on W. 207th Street.
On December 30, JJ Cerillo accidentally dropped three $100 bills while paying at Inwood Bagels. After unsuccessfully searching for the money and reaching out to the store, she posted about her situation on a neighborhood group chat—acknowledging it was a long shot.
What happened next was remarkable. A neighbor named Drew proposed that if two people joined him, he would contribute $10 toward replacing the lost money. Within 24 hours, the community had come together to replace the full $300.
“There are nice things happening around communities, especially Inwood. Inwood is a very tight community,” Cerillo said.
Stories like this remind us why our district is such a special place to call home. When a neighbor needed help, the community didn’t hesitate—they showed up.
