Budget & Government Committee – Manhattan Community Board 10

The Budget and Government Committee plays a vital role in ensuring that the priorities and needs of Harlem residents are represented in the City of New York’s decision-making process.

Responsibilities:

  • Community Budget Priorities:

    • Collects input from residents, block associations, civic groups, and stakeholders to identify the most urgent needs of the community.

    • Develops and submits the Board’s annual District Needs Statement and Budget Requests to the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and City Council.

  • Review of City Budget:

    • Reviews the City’s Preliminary and Executive Budgets.

    • Tracks how city agencies allocate resources in District 10 and advocates for funding that aligns with community priorities.

  • Government Relations:

    • Serves as a liaison between the Board and city/state government agencies and elected officials.

    • Monitors legislation, policies, and government programs that affect Harlem residents.

  • Community Engagement:

    • Organizes hearings, public meetings, and forums so residents can share concerns and help shape the budget priorities.

    • Works with community-based organizations to identify service gaps and funding needs.

Through this committee, Manhattan Community Board 10 ensures Harlem’s voice is heard in the citywide budget process, while also advocating for transparency, equity, and accountability in how government resources are distributed.
