Upcoming Repair of Street Stair at Spring Street 6 Station to start Monday, May 8th
Next month, the MTA will begin a project to replace the street stair on the NE corner of Spring and Lafayette Streets to the Spring Street 6 Station.
Beginning in May, our contractor will mobilize to the area and install barricades at the street level of the station for construction staging and storage. We expect the staircase to close on or around Monday, May 8th and will update you of any changes to this date.
Access to/from the uptown 6 platform will remain available at all times at the entrance across the street on the south side of Spring St.
Signage will be placed prominently at the station informing customers of our work.
Because the station ceiling is directly under the sidewalk, it will be necessary to fully close off a section of the sidewalk between the building numbered 57 Spring St and the Spring St entrance to 233 Lafayette St. Access to both building entries will be maintained. Our team has been in contact with both businesses located adjacent to the stairway. A pedestrian walkway will be maintained in the curb/parking lane. The MTA has obtained all necessary permits from NYCDOT for sidewalk and parking lane closure.
Construction duration is expected to last four (4) months.
