DESCRIPTION:PANEL: New York City’s Economic Recovery: Looking Ahead to 2023\n\nAfter two and half years of the largest exogenous shock to hit the New York City economy and a looming recession going into 2023\, where are we and how are we doing? How are we actually moving towards a more equitable recovery that contributes to the diversification of the NYC economy? We’ll examine the NYC labor market\, office market\, business outlook\, and City finances as we look ahead to 2023. \nPanelists: \nCaleb Silver\, Editor in Chief\, Investopedia. Caleb Silver is an American journalist and the Editor in Chief of Investopedia\, a Dotdash Meredith brand focused on investing and financial education. Silver previously worked as the Director of Business News at CNN\, the Executive Producer of CNN Money\, and was a senior producer on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. Investopedia publishes the weekly New York City Economic Recovery Index. \nAna Champeny\, Vice President of Research\, Citizens Budget Commission. Ana Champeny has worked at the Citizens Budget Commission since 2016\, most recently as the Deputy Research Director. Her 20-year career in the public and nonprofit sectors includes more than a decade of experience analyzing the New York City budget and finances. Her research has included tax policy\, economic development\, municipal labor relations\, and uniformed agency services. The Citizens Budget Commission is a nonpartisan\, nonprofit organization pursuing constructive change in the finances and services of New York City and State. \nAndrew McWilliam\, Director of Economic Research\, Office of New York City Comptroller. \nAndrew McWilliam is an economist and editor of New York By The Numbers: Economic and Fiscal Outlook\, a monthly newsletter from the Office of the New York City Comptroller. McWilliam has been with the Comptroller’s Office for a decade where his practice spans Budget\, Audit\, Policy\, and Special Projects. He has modeled\, analyzed\, and forecasted property values and tax revenues for over 1 million New York City properties. He is also a labor market expert and the author of policy briefs covering: Corporate Ownership of NYC Condos\, Taxation of New York Non-Residents\, the Impact of Immigration on NYC\, and the Demand for NYC housing. McWilliam also completed the City’s first retail vacancy report in 2019. \nKenneth Ebie\, Executive Director and Chief Development Officer\, Black Entrepreneurs NYC (BE NYC)\, New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS)\nKenneth Ebie is a social impact entrepreneur and executive leading BE NYC\, which advances Black entrepreneurship by increasing the number of Black-owned businesses in New York City and supporting their growth through development\, management\, and fundraising. Prior to SBS\, Ebie served as Deputy General Counsel and Director of External Affairs at the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) and previously as Special Counsel at the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP). \nMelissa Pumphrey\, Senior Vice President\, Economic Research & Policy\, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC)\nMelissa Pumphrey is an economist and leads a team of researchers and analysts who conduct economic research focused on inclusive economic development in New York City. Pumphrey led economic research on the Childcare Innovation Lab at NYCEDC\, which seeks to reframe access to affordable childcare as an economic development issue.
