Community Board 12-Manhattan (CB12M) celebrated Juneteenth by partnering with Parents Supporting Parents New York, Inc. and fellow community organizations for a vibrant block party on 163rd Street between Amsterdam and Edgecombe Avenues.<\/p>\n

“On June 20th, Parents Supporting Parents NY, with the support of Councilmember De La Rosa and CB12M, successfully hosted the inaugural Stolen Children’s Month Juneteenth Block Party on 163rd Street,” said Tanesha Grant, CB12M’s Second Vice Chair and Youth & Education Chair, who also serves as Executive Director of Parents Supporting Parents NY. “This event provided food, activities, resources, and music to over 300 community members, fostering a positive and engaging atmosphere. The day was a resounding success.”<\/p>\n

The festivities ran from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 8:00 p.m. under clear skies, drawing over 300 attendees from across the neighborhood. The celebration featured food, beverages, a photo booth, and a DJ. Children were at the heart of the event, with a bounce house, water slide, popcorn, cotton candy, and flavored ice keeping young attendees entertained throughout the day. CB12M tabled alongside elected officials and other community organizations, connecting residents with local resources and information.<\/p>\n

“It was a great experience connecting with community members at the block party, and I was able to share information about CB12M through fliers. Tabling allowed me to meet board members and created conversations with some of the people in the area, with a nice setting around us full of joy,” said MD Abir, CB12M’s Outreach Intern. “Overall, it was a nice outreach within the community.”<\/p>\n

This inaugural event marked the first annual block party honoring Stolen Children’s Month, reflecting CB12M’s ongoing commitment to celebrating community, culture, and the next generation.<\/p>\n

About Community Board 12-Manhattan<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

CB12M is a local agency of the New York City government, serving the neighborhoods of Washington Heights and Inwood. CB12M consists of up to 50 volunteer members with connections in the district. Made up of committees carrying out its work, CB12M addresses issues including affordable housing, education, small business needs, and public safety, to name a few.
