Both new applicants and current members seeking reappointment are encouraged to apply by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>5:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/><strong>What Is Community Board 12-Manhattan? <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>CB12M is an independent city agency representing the neighborhoods of Washington Heights and Inwood in northern Manhattan. The board is committed to improving the delivery of city services and advocating for the welfare of the district and its residents. <br \/><br \/>As a community board member, you become a direct link between your neighbors and city government\u2014helping to shape decisions that affect daily life in your neighborhood. <br \/><br \/><strong>What Do Board Members Do?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Board members serve on committees that review and advise on critical local issues. CB12M operates 10 committees covering a wide range of topics: <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Land Use<\/strong> \u2014 Zoning changes, new developments, and building projects <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Licensing<\/strong> \u2014 Review of liquor license and sidewalk caf\u00e9 applications <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Traffic &amp; Transportation<\/strong> \u2014 Street safety, bike lanes, and transit access <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Housing &amp; Human Services<\/strong> \u2014 Affordable housing and social services <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Parks &amp; Cultural Affairs<\/strong> \u2014 Green spaces, playgrounds, and community programming <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Public Safety<\/strong> \u2014 Working with NYPD and emergency services <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Health &amp; Environment<\/strong> \u2014 Public health initiatives and environmental concerns <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Business Development<\/strong> \u2014 Supporting local businesses and commercial corridors <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Youth &amp; Education<\/strong> \u2014 Schools and programs for young people <br \/>&#8211; <strong>Concerns of the Aging<\/strong> \u2014 Services for seniors <br \/><br \/>Members attend monthly full board meetings, participate in committee work, and engage with city agencies on behalf of their community. <br \/><br \/><strong>Why Join? <\/strong><br \/><br \/>Community boards are one of the most direct ways to have a voice in local government.
